The Bridge over the River Kwai in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, is a historic World War II steel bridge constructed by Allied prisoners of war (POWs) under Japanese supervision in 1943. Part of the "Death Railway" linking Thailand and Myanmar, it cost thousands of lives, and remains a, now repaired, tourist attraction.

The original bridge was a wooden bridge, followed by a permanent steel bridge which is the basis for the current structure.
